My Not-So-Bitter Break-up

I’m breaking up with you, conventional thinking. Sorry, we’ve grown apart and it’s just not working anymore.

Oh, you want to know why?

I’ll tell you why. It’s because you’re so focused on — obsessed even — with physical reality like it’s the end-all, be-all; this undeniable truth that you have to pay attention to, even if you don’t like it. You’re always saying “I’ll believe it when I see it” with that smarmy, self-satisfied grin. Yeah, I know, I used to say it too but now I know better: we create our own reality.

Go ahead, roll your eyes. I won’t bore you with the whole “quantum field of infinite possibilities” thing. But just so you know, our reality doesn’t stay the same because it’s fixed. It stays the same because we’re usually on automatic pilot — we have the same 50,000 (mostly negative) thoughts and emotional reactions every day. If we actually focused our imagination and intention beyond the physical reality in front of us (and for longer than the usual six-second attention span), we’d see incredible things happen.

That’s what Lady Gaga said: “I used to walk down the street like I was a f*#ing star… I want people to walk around delusional about how great they can be – and then to fight so hard for it every day that the lie becomes the truth.”

Anyway, it’s been real (but only in a linear, Newtonian kind of way).

Peace out.
